Righto Tax

How we use AI

Draft. This version is still being finalised and will be confirmed before our service opens. Version 0.1. 27 October 2026.

Righto Tax uses AI for a few jobs. This page says which ones, what the AI sees, and what it never does.

What the AI does

  • Suggests a category for an unclear bank line. Most lines are sorted by fixed rules. When a line's description doesn't match a rule, the AI may suggest a category. Nothing is filed on its suggestion alone, and you check every figure before anything goes to HMRC.
  • Looks at lines our rules couldn't sort, in our own review queue, and offers a suggestion. It can't file a line on its own.
  • Helps us write our website and guides. Each guide names the gov.uk or legislation pages it relies on.

What the AI never does

  • It never works out your tax figures. Those come from the sorted lines and the published rules, and you check and confirm every figure before you send anything to HMRC.
  • It never makes a decision about you, such as accepting or refusing you as a customer. Our identity check does include an automatic decision, but that doesn't use this AI: section 6 of our privacy notice explains it and your rights.
  • It never sees your identity documents or the identity check.
  • It never contacts HMRC, and never sends anything in your name.

Who provides it, and what happens to your data

The AI is provided by Anthropic, under its business terms and a data processing agreement. Those terms do not allow Anthropic to train its models on what we send. We send only what the job needs, for example a bank line's description and amount, never your bank login. Anthropic is listed with our other suppliers in our privacy notice.
