How we counted

Each product on HMRC’s finder has its own page listing every feature as “Ready now”, “In development” (the provider has committed to build it in time for the 2026 to 2027 tax return) or “Not included”. We read every one of those pages on 18 October 2026 and counted the answers exactly as HMRC shows them. We have not tested the products ourselves.

Searched as a taxpayer, the finder lists the 159 products you can use yourself. The other 14 are for agents only, which is why the total here is higher.

These are counts of products, not of the people using them, and one company can list more than one product. Source: HMRC, Find software for Making Tax Digital for Income Tax, under the Open Government Licence v3.0. We refresh the census every month.
