Taxfix's MTD plans cost £4.99 to £39.99 a month including VAT, as listed on 15 October 2026; on the top plan, its accountants do the work. Our automated service costs less than that plan but is not open yet.
Making Tax Digital for Income Tax (MTD) means keeping digital records, sending HMRC four quarterly updates a year and filing a tax return. Taxfix, which used to be called TaxScouts, sells three MTD plans, from software you use yourself to a plan where its accountants do the work. Our service does the work for you from your bank feed or records, using automated software, and you check and confirm every figure before anything is sent to HMRC. Our tax plans start once our HMRC registrations are complete. Until then you can join the waitlist, and no payment is taken.

When Taxfix is the better choice
- You want a person to talk to. Full Support lists unlimited calls with its accountants. Our service uses automated software, including AI, with the company's director accountable for it.
- You want your 2025-26 return in the same price. Taxfix's Assistance and Full Support plans include it.
- You also run a limited company. Taxfix sells limited company services. We do not cover limited companies.
- You want to keep your own records but have them checked. MTD Assistance does that for £24.99 a month.
- You need to start now. Our tax plans are not open yet.
- You have lets outside England or more than 4 properties. Our landlord plans cover 1 to 4 properties in England.
When our service may suit you better
- Price over a full year. For a tradesperson, our yearly plan costs £350, including VAT. For a landlord with 1 or 2 properties it costs £150.
- CIS. Your deductions are matched to your statements. Before you join Making Tax Digital, over-deducted CIS is claimed back through your Self Assessment tax return. Once you are in Making Tax Digital, HMRC adds your CIS deductions to your tax return, and any refund is requested separately through HMRC online services. Either way, the sooner after 5 April the return is filed, the sooner HMRC can repay you. Taxfix's MTD page did not say how CIS is handled within its MTD plans, so ask before you sign up.
- Landlord paperwork. The landlord tax plans include a compliance calendar for each property (gas, EICR, EPC, deposit, Right to Rent, alarms and your PRS Database entry), with reminder emails before each date.
What this means for you
If your self-employed turnover and rent before expenses came to more than £30,000 in 2025-26, MTD starts for you on 6 April 2027. Your first quarterly update covers 6 April to 5 July 2027 and is due by 7 August 2027. Late quarterly updates can earn penalty points, and 4 points means a £200 penalty. At the Budget on 28 October 2026 the government said people who must join in April 2027 will get no penalty points for late 2027-28 quarterly updates, though the updates must still be sent. For you, the earliest a late update can earn a point is 7 August 2028.
Whoever you choose acts as your agent with HMRC. Only your main agent can send your tax return, and no agent should ever ask for your HMRC password. Compare the price you will pay after any free months end, not just the first bill.

Yes. TaxScouts now trades as Taxfix, and taxscouts.com sent visitors to taxfix.com when checked on 15 October 2026.

Does Taxfix include my 2025-26 tax return?
Its MTD Assistance and Full Support plans listed a free 2025/26 tax return when checked on 15 October 2026. That return is due by 31 January 2027 and sits outside MTD.
