Once your 2025-26 tax return is filed, wait 72 hours, then sign in to your HMRC online account and print your SA302 tax calculation and tax year overview. SA302s are available for the last 4 years.
GOV.UK says you might be asked for these documents as evidence of your income, for example if you are applying for a mortgage and you are self-employed. Both come from your Self Assessment record, so the only way to get one for a year is to have filed that year's return.

The two documents
| SA302 tax calculation | Tax year overview | |
|---|---|---|
| What GOV.UK calls it | Evidence of your earnings | A tax year overview |
| Which years | The last 4 years | Any year |
| When it is ready | 72 hours after you file | 72 hours after you file |
| Where to print it if you filed through HMRC online | Your HMRC online account | Your HMRC online account |
| Where to print it if you filed through software | The software, sometimes called a "tax computation" | Your HMRC online account |
Ask your lender or broker which years and which of the two documents they need before you print.
Printing from your HMRC online account
GOV.UK gives this route: sign in, go to "Self Assessment", then "More details about your Self Assessment returns and payments". From there you can print both documents for each year.
If you or an accountant sent your return with commercial software, the tax calculation comes from that software instead. Contact the company that makes it if it will not print. The tax year overview still comes from your HMRC online account.
For CIS subcontractors
GOV.UK says a subcontractor's return records total pay before deductions as income, and the deductions contractors took as CIS deductions. So the income on your SA302 is built from your gross pay, not the smaller amounts that reached your bank. A plasterer paid £48,000 for labour, with £9,600 taken under CIS at 20%, reports £48,000 of income, not £38,400.
Timing matters too. You can file your 2025-26 return from 6 April 2026, and the online deadline is 31 January 2027. If a mortgage is likely in the next year, filing early gives a lender your latest figures sooner, and gets any CIS refund moving at the same time.
For landlords
Your SA302 is the tax calculation for your return, so it reflects the rental income and any self-employed income you reported. Ask your lender how it wants rental income evidenced, as that is its decision, not HMRC's.
If you have only recently started letting, there may be no return, and so no SA302, for that income yet. GOV.UK says that if you have not sent a tax return before, you must tell HMRC by 5 October after the tax year if you need to complete one. For 2025-26 the online return is due by 31 January 2027, and you can file any time from 6 April 2026.
What this means for you
You do not need to pay anyone or wait for a letter to get these documents. If your returns are filed, you can print them yourself. What can hold you up is a return that has not been filed for the year a lender wants, so bring your returns up to date before you apply.
Steps to get your SA302 and tax year overview
- Check with your lender or broker which tax years they need, and whether they accept documents you print yourself.
- Make sure the return for each year has been filed, and that 72 hours have passed since the latest one.
- Sign in to your HMRC online account and go to "Self Assessment", then "More details about your Self Assessment returns and payments".
- Print the SA302 tax calculation and the tax year overview for each year. If you filed through software, print the calculation from the software instead.
- Check the figures match your returns, then send them to your lender.
- If you cannot get them, call the Self Assessment helpline on 0300 200 3310, Monday to Friday, 8am to 6pm.
Under Making Tax Digital
If you are not already using Making Tax Digital for Income Tax (MTD), it starts on 6 April 2027 if your 2025-26 income from self-employment and property, before costs, was over £30,000. From your first MTD year, GOV.UK says you view and check your tax calculation in your MTD software before you submit, and your HMRC online services account shows an updated calculation after any change. The free MTD check shows your start date. There are guides for each in the trades section and the landlords section.
Hold your place on the waitlist
