Can I pay my Self Assessment tax bill in instalments? Yes. You can pay weekly or monthly towards your 2025-26 bill before 31 January 2027. If you cannot pay in full, owe £30,000 or less and have filed your returns, an online payment plan may be possible. GOV.UK says you will usually be asked to pay around half of what you have left each month after rent, food, utility bills and fixed outgoings. You can agree to pay more, which means less interest. There is no set time limit. It depends on how much you owe and what you can afford each month, and you can ask HMRC to make it longer or shorter if things change. Not under the current Self Assessment rules, while you keep to it. HMRC's manual says that once HMRC agrees you can pay later, no late payment penalty is charged on that tax from the date you asked until the agreement ends. If you break it, HMRC can charge the penalty. Interest is still charged. Read the full answer, with every source, at rightotax.co.uk.
