Tax, CIS and Making Tax Digital for self-employed bricklayers
Transcript
Tax, CIS and Making Tax Digital for self-employed bricklayers Most bricklayers work for builders and main contractors, often labour-only, so CIS comes off most of their pay. Your costs lower your profit, and your profit decides how much of the deducted tax comes back after the year ends. Making Tax Digital counts your pay before any deduction. Building, altering, extending and repairing buildings and walls is construction work, so nearly all bricklaying is inside CIS when a contractor pays you. That includes work on existing property, such as repairing or rebuilding brickwork. Trowels, levels, jointers, lines and pins: tools you keep for the business. Disc cutter and diamond blades: the cutter is equipment you keep. Usually, yes: tools, blades, protective gear, insurance, your phone’s business use and travel to temporary sites. You have no materials to claim, because the contractor supplies them. Read the full guide for bricklayers, with every source, at rightotax.co.uk.
