Tax, CIS and Making Tax Digital for self-employed electricians

Transcript

Tax, CIS and Making Tax Digital for self-employed electricians Most electricians are paid two ways: in full by homeowners, and with CIS taken off by builders. A full rewire is inside CIS, but a repair, an extra socket or a burglar alarm usually is not. Making Tax Digital counts all of it before deductions. CIS covers installing a whole electrical system, and replacing one, such as a full rewire. Repairing or extending a system usually is not covered on its own. Cable, back boxes, consumer units and fittings: materials for the work you sell. Multifunction tester, voltage indicator and proving unit: equipment you keep and use in the business. Before. HMRC counts a subcontractor’s turnover as the full pay before CIS deductions, so the gross figure on your statements is what is tested against the Making Tax Digital threshold, not what reaches your bank.
