Tax, CIS and Making Tax Digital for self-employed plasterers
Transcript
Tax, CIS and Making Tax Digital for self-employed plasterers Plasterers are often paid two ways: in full by homeowners, and with CIS taken off by builders. On builders’ jobs, plaster and board you buy yourself should be shown on the invoice, because the deduction is only worked out on your labour. Making Tax Digital counts all your pay, before any deduction. Plastering is part of building, altering and repairing buildings, so it is inside CIS when a builder or other contractor pays you, on new and old property alike. Patching plaster and making good after other work count as repairs to the building, so they are covered too. Multi-finish, bonding, render, plasterboard, beads and scrim: materials for jobs. Dust sheets, buckets and sanding pads: used up on jobs, so claimed as running costs. No, if you bought it yourself for the job. The contractor takes the cost of your materials off first and works out the deduction on what is left. Keep the receipts, as they can ask for them.
