On 16 October 2026, Pie's managed package was £199 a year, VAT not stated; Taxfix Full Support was £479.88 a year including VAT; Hnry charged 1.2% of income including VAT, up to £720.
Each of these does your Making Tax Digital (MTD) quarterly updates and tax return for you, and Hnry, Pie and ANNA each say they handle CIS. They differ in how you pay, who does the work and what account you need. Our service is in the table too, and it is not open yet: our tax plans start once our HMRC registrations are complete. Until then you can join the waitlist, and no payment is taken.

Where each one is the better fit
- Hnry suits you if you earn less than about £29,000, where its fee comes to less than our £350 yearly plan, or you want your tax set aside and paid every time you are paid. It also sends and chases your invoices. See our Hnry comparison.
- Pie suits you if you want a managed package at a fixed yearly price. Its MTD Package was £199 a year, VAT not stated, and its app is free if you would rather do it yourself. See our Pie comparison.
- ANNA suits you if you want a business account and bookkeeping in one place, or you are already in MTD for 2026/27, which ANNA says is free. See our ANNA comparison.
- Taxfix Full Support suits you if you want a person doing your books, with unlimited calls. It also includes a free 2025-26 return. See our Taxfix comparison.
- Our service may suit you if you are a CIS subcontractor who wants one fixed yearly price including VAT, wants to keep your own bank account, and wants to check every figure before it goes to HMRC. Before you join Making Tax Digital, over-deducted CIS is claimed back through your Self Assessment tax return. Once you are in Making Tax Digital, HMRC adds your CIS deductions to your tax return, and any refund is requested separately through HMRC online services. Either way, the sooner after 5 April the return is filed, the sooner HMRC can repay you.
What this means for you
If your self-employed turnover and rent before expenses came to more than £30,000 in 2025-26, MTD starts for you on 6 April 2027. Your first quarterly update covers 6 April to 5 July 2027 and is due by 7 August 2027. Each missed deadline earns a penalty point, and 4 points means a £200 penalty.
Whoever you choose acts as your agent with HMRC, and only your main agent can send your tax return. Compare prices including VAT, over a full year, after any free months end.
Steps to choose
- Use the free MTD check to see whether and when MTD starts for you.

- Work out each service's yearly cost on that figure, including VAT.
- Decide whether you want a person, software you approve, or a mix.
- Decide whether you are willing to move your income into a new account.
- If you want a fixed price for trades, see the trades plan and join the waitlist. No payment is taken.

We’ll email you when Trades Tax opens, with the founding offer while places last. No payment is taken.
Questions people ask
Do Hnry, Pie and ANNA handle CIS?
Yes, all three. Hnry and Pie each have a CIS page describing how they handle deductions, and the GOV.UK software finder lists CIS as Ready now for ANNA Self Assessment. All were checked on 16 October 2026.
Which one costs least?
It depends on your income. Hnry's fee is a percentage, so it is smaller for lower earners. Pie's MTD Package was £199 a year, VAT not stated. Compare each over 12 months, including VAT, on your own figures.
Which one has a person doing the work?
Taxfix MTD Full Support says an accountant keeps your books and sends your updates and return. Pie says a tax expert does its paid MTD work. Hnry describes itself as an accountant and software in one, with tax and expenses automated and a team of accountants you can contact. ANNA uses AI-based software you approve, with a support team.
Do I have to change bank?
For Hnry, your self-employed income goes into the Hnry Account by default. ANNA needs an ANNA account but connects to any UK bank. Pie's and Taxfix's MTD pages did not ask you to open a new account, and our service works from the bank you already have.
Can I use your service now?
Not yet. Our tax plans start once our HMRC registrations are complete. Until then you can join the waitlist, and no payment is taken.
